Artwork Specifications for Email Banners

Email banner specifications

Email banners may be created in any graphics package and exported to PNG (preferable) or JPG. Banner backgrounds may also be uploaded to the BQIgnite banner designer, with use together with headline placeholders for ongoing headline updates. 

Before getting started, confirm the required width for your email banners. These are usually 700px wide, but may differ by brand. To check the current signature width:

1. Find the toolbar where the banner will be added

2. Open the signature editor

3. Check the width of the current signature

This should then be the required width for your email signatures. The height is variable, depending on your requirements. 

Static Banners

When creating email banner artwork always export as a PNG or JPG at a resolution of 300dpi. Exporting at a lower resolution will likely result in the image appearing "fuzzy". If you are exporting directly from PhotoShop, the default setting is 96dpi. In order to correct this, please multiple your desired size by 3.125. 

In other words: 

If your desired BrandMail banner size (end result) is: 700px wide by 115px height 

700px x 115px = 2 187.50px x 359.50px (700px * 3.125 = 2187px wide) and (115px * 3.125 = 359.50px)

These images should be a PNG or JPG file. If "dark mode" is enabled when uploading the banners, any transparency or white pixels will be removed.

Animated Banners

Animated banners are now supported by most email and mobile clients, but certain older versions of mail and mobile clients will not support your animated GIF's. So make sure the first frame of your animation "still works" as a static image.

Unlike graphic banners which are loaded and adjusted in the BQIgnite Admin Console Banner Editor, animated banners are loaded as pre-created animated GIF's. In order to ensure the correct end result, please ensure your animated GIF is the same width as your email signatures e.g. if your email signatures are 700px wide, then ensure your animated GIF is rendered to 700px wide.

Very important: your animated GIF should be less than 1MB (ideally under 500KB). Certain mail clients e.g. O365 Web will not allow animations greater than 1MB.
